After all the time of patiences and then some

Liam did his best to get Penny out of the comic book store before she decided to move in. Who was she anyway? He thought, but then decided she was just a nuisance. Of course, in his mindset, everyone had some sort of purpose. Although, he didn't want to figure her out.

But did she have a thing for him? Or was she a spy? He shook his head, knowing she would not be the one to get to him through his so-called brother Bentley.

After she was gone, going tired of his stoic nature, Liam decided he'd make some real food for his friend. He decided they were hungry.

"Did it feel like a month has passed to you," Bently asked cautiously?

"Possibly," Liam shrugged. Julie was still fresh on his mind. He was worried she'd been taken and maybe brainwashed by now.

He chopped the veg while the pork sizzled in the skillet and the rice warmed in the rice cooker. Oh, it was cozy. He didn't really want to get chummy with the kid, but it was best to keep in the up and up with him because one day they might need each other and the day might come sooner than he thought.

"There is something you might not know, or maybe you've caught on by now," Liam said during  dinner. "You and I are in a sect."

"A what? Like an occult?" Bently squinted.

"Well, I wouldn't go that far," Liam shrugged. "More like a tribe."

Bently nodded.

"You see your grandmother-" he started.

"What?" Now Bentley was wide-eyed and Liam was not sure what he might say next.

"I'm not saying she was an assassin, but she did have those capabilities," he nodded.

Bentley barely ate a bit of rice with his chopsticks, but grabbed a hot pepper and stared at it.

"She wanted a normal life, you know." Liam was even lipped. "It was hard for her. You might never know all the hardships she went through. And..and then your mom-" Liam squinted.

"My mom?" Bentley put down the pepper he was about to eat with the pork.

"She was friends with Mannie," he nodded.

"Like how friendly?" Bentley gave him a sly look. Liam smiled back accidentally.

"Of course not, that friendly," Liam smirked. He told Bentley that his grandmother raised Mannie.

"Well, I didn't know my dad. I barely knew my mom," Bentley was a little sad.

Liam sighed. "You have to remember there are good and bad sects."

Bentley nodded.

"Your mother got mixed up with a bad sect," Liam knew this at least.

"So..so my dad is in a bad sect?" Bentley squinted.

"Not anymore." Liam took a bite of food, but he didn't want to go into detail about how it ended. Bentley might not be able to eat.

"What you need to know, you're part of The Devine Order of the Immortal's Cave," Liam said.

Bentley remained even lipped.

"You have to be careful of spiders, friend," Liam went on to say. "Some are good but others are bad."

Bentley burst into laughter.

  6. At first I was like, whoa, Penny's a spy? But then the whole Divine Order of the Immortal's Cave thing came up and completely eclipsed it. Intriguing stuff! Is Carefully Listening your sci-fi story blog?

    1. Possibly more Chinese Fantasy than sci-fi. I love the Lost Tomb series. Of course, I don't write on as much of this story as I would like.
