"I want to get out of here," Sadie yelped. Of course, it was too late. Mannie grabbed her by the waist and leaped forward into yet another coffin hanging on the wall. It looked kind of like a stairway pattern, but Sadie was dizzy, and maybe if she fainted it would all be over.
But no, there on the ground beneath them was something scurrying around.
"What is that?" She asked barely above a whisper.
"You don't need to know," Mannie sighed holding on to her as if he'd never let go, but she was certain she wasn't going to let go of him either.
Sadie only nodded. Obviously, things were not getting better. How long had they been here practically playing leapfrog on all these old coffins, she was sure he'd run his foot through. Then God knows what might be next. Waking the dead, she guessed.
She wouldn't dare ask if there was an easier way. After all, what would be the fun in that? Actually, she missed her workstation. Of course, she missed her dear computer that she'd named Hal and all her HELLO KITTY figurines that surrounded it. Oh, would she ever get back to the real world?
NOPE.
Here they went again. Another leap. Higher. Oh, she hoped they didn't fall. No way could she ask where they were going. After all, the map was tattooed on her back. He'd taken a picture of it on his phone. Not that he bothered with his phone at the moment.
Honestly, Sadie did not want to watch. She was glad he was so nimble. Maybe he knew Martial Arts. Oh, she did her best to take her mind off all the suspense. But after each landing, teeter-totting along, she took a deep breath. God, she hoped they didn't have to go back this way.
She breathed in and out of her nose. This was no time to scream. No time to panic. Just hang on for dear life as if Mannie would somehow see this through.
And yet, another leap came. Sadie didn't see an exit.
"Thanks for being so quiet," Mannie finally acknowledged.
Her heart raced as if he was getting her ready for the worst part. As long as they could find a passageway out of here, she would be OK.
Interesting
