Don't worry be Happy

Bently felt lost in stacks of comic books. It should be the happiest time of his life. He wanted it to be. Yet, he couldn't help but worry about the cat and of course, Sadie.

It had been weird with Liam. What was he trying to tell him? That was just crap Liam had to be saying. Bently shook his head. That was just crazy talk, wasn't it?

He sucked in a breath and wondered if he should start organizing all these comics. Maybe they could have a sale. Maybe if they made the space presentable enough, people would come in and buy things.

But he knew if Liam knew what he was doing, he would stop him. Thankfully, Liam left before dawn to do something so Ben was all by his lonesome. He shuffled about with a cup of creamed coffee. He would touch a book and put it in another stack. Honestly,  he had no idea where to start.

Evidently, he was in no hurry, but his luck he'd be just wasting time. Nobody was coming in. For a moment he felt as if his existence was dreadful. Not a thing to look forward to. He was going to have to enjoy his own company.

He sighed and looked up at the old ceiling. How long had this place been here? What other secrets did it hold?

"I'm not sure I even want to know," he said aloud.

"Who are you talking to?" The sweet little voice made him jump as she jabbed him in the side of the ribs. Naturally, he towered over her.

"How did you get here?" Bently winced as his hand dripped with warm coffee.

"Very quietly, evidently," Penny smirked as she practically looked at him sideways. "What are you doing?"

"I'm just thinking," he pulled away but of course, she grabbed his waist as soon as his stomach growled.

"Oh, somebody's hungry," she practically squealed.

"Stay away from me," Bently did his best to push her off, but of course she resisted.

"Hm, about an egg sandwich?"

His stomach growled more. It was as if his stomach was already going out with her. After messing with his hair a bit she made her way to the kitchen to start breakfast.

"Did you make the coffee yourself?" She asked.

"What about it?"

"Oh, nothing." Penny made fresh coffee. She said just in case someone came in asking for coffee. They could sell it a dollar a cup. She talked about how expensive things were getting.

Bently half-listened and sipped what was left of his cold coffee. He went to warm it up when the food was ready. Of course, she made herself at home as they sat down to a meal.

"I wonder what Sadie is doing right now?" Penny said according to the comic book she'd read of Sadie's adventures that she was an avid speleologist.

"A what?" He asked as he bit into the messy sandwich.

"A caver." She told him.

"Huh." He didn't quite believe that. He mentioned how maybe they should just keep busy. "We can start organizing the comics."

"Cool," Penny smiled as she took a sip of her black coffee. "I was just going to suggest that."

  8. It's interesting to be back in the "real" world after the haunted (?) cave chapter. There's something magical about comic books; I can see how much they mean to Bently and Penny and how this feeds their bond. Speaking of Penny, the comic book connection also makes me think of The Big Bang Theory!
